Advancing worker safety with Network as Code’s APIs
Worker safety continues to be a top priority for enterprises. To address these needs, Nokia, Radisys, and Innova Solutions have co-developed an enterprise worker safety solution that leverages Orange’s 5G network and Nokia’s Network as Code platform. By integrating advanced network APIs, this solution enhances real-time incident response, ensuring worker safety in critical situations.
How does it work?
The solution integrates two key Network as Code APIs – Quality of Service on Demand (QoD) and Device Location APIs. These APIs, when integrated into Radisys’ and Innova Solutions’ applications, enable a seamless and efficient incident response system.
Enhanced video streaming with QoD API
When an incident, such as a fire, is detected through video analytics, the Quality of Service on Demand (QoD) API boosts uplink bandwidth, ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality video streaming from the 5G cameras at the affected location.
In large-scale safety and security monitoring scenarios where dozens or even hundreds of high-resolution cameras are deployed, the QoD API supports management of the overall network bandwidth usage by allocating maximum bandwidth to the cameras in the area where the incident is detected.
In cases of network congestion, the QoD API can ensure that mission-critical cameras receive priority bandwidth to maintain visibility during an emergency.
Reliable worker positioning with Device Location API
The worker safety application uses the Device Location API to determine the location of individuals in the affected area. Workers in danger can be sent real-time notifications to evacuate the area, and the incident response team can be dispatched to the location of the problem. Because the Device Location API operates through the network and not from GPS information provided by the users’ device, it enables location services even in scenarios where GPS coverage is blocked or unreliable, the user disabled GPS on their device, or the device is damaged in the incident.
Who can benefit?
This solution is ideal for enterprises looking to improve and modernize the safety and security of their assets and employees. The demonstrated techniques for QoD-optimized video analytics and device location services can be extended to various industries, including infrastructure monitoring, public safety, airport security, and more.
By integrating AI-powered analytics and intelligent worker safety with Orange’s 5G network, Nokia, Radisys, and Innova Solutions demonstrate how advanced network APIs can revolutionize worker safety. With real-time video quality optimization and precise location-based alerts, incident response is faster and more effective.
Nokia’s Network as Code empowers developers to experiment with these APIs, create powerful applications, and expand the ecosystem of network-enabled innovations. Explore the world of programmable networks with us today.
